Tips For First-Time Drinkers & How To Avoid Getting Drunk

Here are some tips from Maggie’s on how to make the first time you visit a bar a memorable one. Sipping sounds better than gulping, even though beer belly may be a myth.

1. You can still make the right choice even when you are under pressure

Do not feel obliged to drink just because others are! Self-preservation above all else, remember?

Start with drinks with a low Alcohol by Volume, which is the percentage of alcohol contained in the volume of a drink. Start with cocktails. Cocktails are a great choice if you like tall, sparkling, slightly sweet drinks where syrups and juices disguise the alcohol. Does that make sense?

Be aware, however, that the sweetness of sweeter drinks can mask alcohol and cause you to drink it faster. You don’t want that to happen the first time you taste something.

2. On the first page of the manual, it says to eat before you drink

Alcohol will enter your system faster if you are a first-time drinker and begin drinking on an empty tummy. It’s important to eat before and after your first drink. Do the following to get the best out of food and drink:

  • Alcohol shouldn’t be mixed with energy drinks or sweets.
  • You will drink more water if you eat salty snacks.

Say “no”! If you want to quench your thirst, drinking Long Island iced Teas is the best way to end up on the bathroom floor.

Before you down your first drink, take a moment to think about the contents of your stomach. If there is nothing in your stomach, you’re already in serious trouble! Alcohol is slowed down by food, which gives it more time to be broken down. Avoid drinking when you are empty-handed. Use creative visualization if you can. Imagine the pasta primavera’s aftermath after six Jack and Cokes. Did you get the picture?

3. Set Tracker in Motion

You can easily drink more alcohol than you think.

A typical drink is a beer can, bottle, or 100ml of alcohol. In pubs, restaurants and bars, drinks often contain more than just one “shot”. Sometimes, bartenders are a bit too generous.

Pickle juice is known to cure hangovers. It is not a good idea to drink in rounds. Instead of topping up your glass, finish the first one before moving on to another. Let’s slow down, shall we?

4. Don’t Drink ONLY Alcohol

Limit yourself to only one drink per hour. This can be achieved by drinking both alcoholic and a non-alcoholic beverage.

  • Sip water before you begin drinking alcohol to quench your thirst.
  • Choose low-alcohol beverages
  • Does sipping sound better than gulping?
  • Drink a glass of water after every few sips of whatever you are drinking.

Drink more water if you’re not thirsty. Caprice?

5. Let’s take it slow guys

Do not feel obliged to drink more than you can handle just because your neighbours are. Do not drink more than you are comfortable with. To stay sober, drink your alcohol slowly and make sure you’re visible throughout the night. We don’t wish for you to fall off your chair!

It is best to choose drinks with low alcohol content. By spacing your drinks, you can avoid becoming intoxicated. You can also get more for your money and enjoy your beverage.

6. Do you feel like saying no? You can do it!

Are you pregnant, planning to become pregnant, nursing, or taking medication? You should not drink alcohol!

It is hard to resist peer pressure, and a few drinks quickly turn into a lot.

You do not need to drink excessively, no matter what your friends may be doing. Stop the room before it gets out of hand!

But…

What happens if you get a pounding hangover? Before you go to bed, take some aspirin or drink orange juice. This will help reduce your risk of a “morning-after”. Do you remember to eat something before your first drink of alcohol? Don’t forget LOTS OF WATER! A heavy and fatty diet will slow down alcohol absorption. You need to eat, and we don’t mean to sound like parents. Eating after drinking can indeed be a bad idea. Keep your head up, soldier! You’ve got it!

And Finally…

Enjoy yourself!! You can have fun even if you’re not drinking much. Attention! Pay attention to those you are having the best time with. You’ll feel less regret the next morning if you don’t drink.
